DC today looks like it will the day after Ron Paul is inaugurated

Except for the sublime weather, Washington at the moment looks exactly as I imagine it would look after Ron Paul takes office. Tens of thousands of federal workers have poured into the streets and are walking back toward their condos in Northern Virginia.

Of course it is an earthquake which put them on the street today, not layoffs. And of course a Ron Paul presidency, if it came to pass, would progress more delicately and intelligently than just laying off most of the federal workforce.

But metaphorically speaking, the idea of most of Washington leaving their unnecessary jobs and heading back to the real world is something worth dreaming about.

No one has been hurt, apparently, which is outstanding news. I am going to run by the National Cathedral, which has been damaged apparently, and swing by the Washington Monument, which some reports say is swinging or swaying or buckling or something. I shall report back. (I tried, by the way, to buy DCearthquake.com and EastCoastEarthquake.com but some enterprising, fast fingered spammer beat me to both names).

Here is hoping damage is nonexistent and that one day a significant number of federal employees are furloughed and that they find nice, new jobs in a revitalized private sector.

A Ron Paul supporter can dream, right?

UPDATE: I am back from my run and all looks normal, thank goodness.
