Does Andre Agassi's Tennis Academy really need $45,000 in USG funds?

At a time when the federal government, via the unconstitutional supercommittee, is poised to be implement mandatory spending cuts- do we really need to give $45k to a tennis school in Las Vegas?

To be fair, this money is not just going to the Andre Agassi Tennis Academy without good intentions.  The grant is part of a Department of Justice program to reach out to troubled youths using sports (or "sport" if you are European).

Let's forget for a moment about the fact the USG has no authority to tax money via taxation, inflation, or borrowing, and redistribute it to a tennis academy, even if it's for a good reason.

Isn't this surely a program which can be cut?  Before we cut national defense or entitlements or raise taxes, can we please get rid of these small, nonessential programs?

Because, in addition to being unconstitutional, everyone who doesn't work for the USG or an implementing contractor knows most of these programs are wasteful, and nearly all of them are ineffective.

Even if teaching kids to play tennis is a good way to keep them out of prison and might save the USG some bucks in the longterm- do we want the federal government to engage in central social planning?

Andre Agassi made tens of millions playing tennis.  He can pay for this- not the taxpayers of the US.
