Ok fine, keep the Rs and the Ds, even though they virtually the same. The are monolithic bureaucracies and won't evaporate overnight.
But what about a party promoting small government, civil liberties, and the free market? That's what the Libertarians are needed for.
The lefties need somebody too though, right? Those hippies marching around everyplace from Occupy Atlanta to Occupy Zephyr Cove (it's up at Lake Tahoe) should have a party. Maybe the Green Party. Yes the Green Party should be the party of the progressive left.
And what about some of the more galvanizing single party issues? Maybe there should be a pro-life party. And maybe a pro-choice party too. And maybe also a religious party or two. Most countries have those. We don't. And what about an ultra-right wing, scare the heck out of any sensible person, party? We're missing that one.
Spare me the lecture on the differences between the US and European systems. I know our winner take all approach yields a two party system. But that biopoly should not lead to restrictions on ballots, which is my great objection.
It's shameful that the way third parties are kept out of the game are through administrative tricks. I have been, still am, and intend to stay a Republican, but it's pathetic that the two big parties conspire to keep the others out.
If nothing else, it'd make these presidential races more interesting. Right now it's basically Ron Paul versus a bunch of Obama/Dubya clones. I'd like to see a few socialists and pro-Puerto Rico independence advocates out there.
