Shockingly Juan Williams of Fox News acknowledged that Ron Paul is at the top of GOP fundraising race. Of course in doing so Fox gave the story a nice neocon spin.
Another indication of paltry fundraising by Republicans is that Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), the iconoclast libertarian candidate, is in second place with $4.5 million.
In addition to this left-handed compliment Fox News drags out the the usual nonsense. The article gives a recitation of the candidates with Ron Paul as an afterthought, despite his impressive fundraising. Even Chris Christie, who spent a half-hour on Meet the Press two weeks ago insisting he will not run, received more attention than Paul. Rick Perry, who is not in the race either, got a full paragraph.
Thanks for your opinion Fox News. If you want mine, give me a call. Oh wait, you have probably already tapped my phone.
Judy Woodruff over at PBS on the other hand, gave Paul a fair shake in this article, a lead in to a NewsHour interview. There is no problem in my view with journalists pointing out that Ron Paul is an outsider- it is a fair assessment. But at the same time he deserves recognition as someone who sticks to his ideas and draws legitimate grass roots support (not just "I want change" votes orchestrated by professional spin, but actual support based on peer-to-peer politicking).
Thanks PBS. When the libertarian revolution sweeps Washington you will be one of the first subsidies cut, but it will be with a heavy heart.
